Granddaddy

Things I remember about my Granddaddy:

  • He said I was as pretty as a wax doll & he proudly called me that all his life with me.
  • He got fully dressed everyday!
  • He was known for his fun-loving ways; stylish lifestyle and cars; nice home and beautiful daughters.
  • He loved, loved, loved his grandchildren; protected and defended them at every turn in their lives.
  • He gave me my first car – a block long Electra 225!
  • He never could pronounce my real name correctly – he said Netha instead of Lisa. I liked it better when he called me Wax Doll.
  • He had tons of friends in the neighborhood, at church and at work.
  • We lived with him and he lived with us. We were never far apart.
  • He loved to dance.
  • He gave us whatever we wanted, whether we needed it or not.
  • He loved the Lord and was a self proclaimed deacon in our church.
  • His favorite prayer was “Jesus Wept”. That’s it. “Jesus Wept”.
  • He and his brother were very close. I loved sitting and listening to them talk for hours.
  • I was not ready for him to die.
  • I laid in the bed beside him and held him until his body grew cold and they had to take him out.
  • His funeral was a packed house.
